Oh Boy!
Another stab at a beloved character becoming a horror icon! this time its the turn of Minnie Mouse.
Recently we have had a bunch of Steamboat Willie Movies after the cartoon starring Mickey Mouse fell into public domain. This means film makers are able to use the likeness of the mouse from that original cartoon as long as they use their own unique spin on the idea. These public domain characters are clearly gold for horror movies as its instantly recognisable. After the success of Blood & Honey film makers have now made movies on everything from Peter Pan to Popeye.
Brett Bentman created this movie and so far I think he might be the only one to use Minnie Mouse as she also fell into public domain right alongside Mickey from the original Steamboat Willie cartoon.
Okay with all the intro out of the way let me jump into the horror movie itself, did I enjoy it? Yes i did lol but im a sucker for a good b-movie horror. low budget horror movies are usually more inventive and sometimes slightly edgier and sillier than hollywood horror which appeals to me.
This film is an American Production so I thought this was going to be so much cheesier than it actually was, this was actually a kinda grounded slasher movie just using the “idea” of the cartoon without putting it too in your face kind of thing.
This is a revenge tale, “Minnie Winnie” was picked on as a child and she comes back to take revenge on the people who wronged her. Our silent protagonist Winnie was enjoyable, using mime and reminded me a little of an art the clown kind of deal with all the over the top mimes and comedy elements to the other wise serious slasher.
The acting wasn’t the best but it was passable and didn’t take me out of the movie at any point.
Would I rewatch this movie? no but these tend to be “curious watches” rather than beloved horror movies. Its fun to see it and experience it but probably not one id revisit in the future.
overall a passable movie that I did enjoy the slasher element of with a hunt of whimsy thanks to the idea of using the “mickey mouse” element.
